Phases

Bernard Lievegoed – PHASES

Brief overview

A bestseller since it was first published, Bernard Lievegoed’s Phases – The Spiritual Rhythms in Adult Life explores the human journey as a personal work of art, highlighting fundamental existential phases that, while universal, are accompanied by unique experiences. The book examines various stages of life, from adolescence to old age, analysing the inner qualities, aspirations, and challenges of each phase. Lievegoed criticises conventional explanations that limit themselves to a physiological and psychological viewpoint, arguing that to fully understand our life journey, it is essential to accept our inner selves. Each phase is not just a biographical event but an opportunity for spiritual development and authenticity, encouraging reflection and personal growth.
