IMO Basics

IMO stands for Institute for Human and Organizational Development. What kind of organization is it? What is the vision on people and organizations behind it? How do you get development, innovation going? This course is an introduction.

You will get acquainted with the history of IMO, which people and activities you will encounter. The methodology that can be recognized everywhere is discussed extensively. And finally you will gain insight into the theoretical and practical side of working on ‘development of people and organizations’.

LEARNING PROCESS

In this course you will find three modules. They consist of text, video, references to publications and some questions. You can take this course alone, that is up to you, but it is better to find a fellow student to discuss your findings with. We can also highly recommend that you take notes in a personal notebook.

After the three modules you will know what IMO is about. See course description. If you follow all elements of the course you will spend a total of about 8 hours.

Module 1: IMO as an organization

In the first module you will prepare yourself to make the most of this course. You will be introduced to the biography of the IMO, the founder, Adriaan Bekman will speak. Furthermore, we elaborate on our vision of what an organization actually is and we apply that to IMO itself, also an organization. The module ends with a question to you.

1.5 hour

Module 2: Vision and methodology

You study IMO’s vision, mission and methodology. In this we build on Module 1 There is a world of stories and ideas behind it and you need time and peers to make them your own. You’ll hear some (former) IMO consultants about their inspiration and you’ll discover how they try to put that vision into practice.

3 hour

Module 3: Research and development

The final module is an impulse to explore. IMO, we see inquiry and development as something inseparable. We set up both learning and change processes in organizations. These go hand in hand. You can read some texts here and hear from clients of IMO how they experience this way of working.
